The same thing is happening in the United Kingdom, and has been for at least 30 years, church attendance falls every year, the church of England becomes more irrelevant and so on. There are the equivalent fundamentalist church groups in the UK, but they are not as politically active or vocal in society as they are in the USA. Any church group in the UK that acted like the Westboro mob would either get beaten up or thrown in jail.

In the rest of Europe, the protestant evangelical church is viewed with suspicion, and in France, evangelicals are seen as being on a par as a cult. This is why some British evangelicals point their fingers across the Channel as they say, "France is under a dark spiritual cloud, it is under satan's spell etc etc."
