International Paper, the US-based paper major, has announced plans to provide solar energy lamps to the students of Zilla Parishad schools in seven districts in Andhra Pradesh.

This move will cover the forest region where electricity shortage is a huge deterrent for children. In the first phase of the three-year initiative, approximately 1,000 students from 15 schools will be provided solar lamps.

These solar lamps will enable students to have an effective, portable and zero maintenance solution.

In the first phase, International Paper will provide solar energy lamps to the students of 10th Standard appearing for the board examinations this year.

Rampraveen Swaminathan, Vice-President, International Paper, and CEO of AP Paper Mills, said: ?The solar lamp initiative will not only enable students with sufficient light to help with their studies but also help in keeping the environment cleaner.??

International paper is partnering Thrive Technologies to enable the programme design and delivery.
