Apple, Google and others seek to register domain names

Internet domain names look to get a whole lot busier as companies seek to get into the action, according to USA Today. In addition to Web site addresses that end in ".com" or ".org," businesses such as Microsoft Corp., Amazon.com, Apple Inc.?

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) revealed the list of applicants seeking part the Internet, also known as a domain.

Companies paid $185,000 per domain to apply for naming rights. If granted, it would mark the first time companies could use their name or product in a web address.

As for the companies, Apple is seeking just the .apple domain, while other companies such as Amazon, seek several domains such as ".book," ".author" and others.
