You may now have the most sophisticated games such as the Nintendo wii, play station potable and some high-resolution and 3D computer games. But, before all this hi-tech gaming became possible, video games had some earlier innovations which seem simple and uninteresting for today?s generation.
First handheld game: Mattel Auto Race
Before the outdated Nintendo Gameboy was even imaginable in the world of video gaming, Mattel was the first to produce a handheld game through the Mattel Auto Race in 1977.
The player cruised down a three-lane racetrack represented by simple LED lights, Auto Race used about half a kilobyte of memory. To control the speed, a four-speed gearshift is used.
First virtual online world: Neverwinter Nights
While the new generation would spend hours playing the World of Warcraft or Star Wars: The Old Republic, earlier gamers say Neverwinter was the game to experience virtual world gaming.
This game was commercially-released in 1991. It was played over AOL, Neverwinter Nights kept armchair adventurers busy until 1997, by which time it had amassed an impressive 115,000 subscribers, with up to 500 players interacting together
on a single server.
First sports game: Odyssey Football
The first home console ever released?the Magnavox Odyssey, launched in 1972?featured Football as one of the original 12 games packaged with the system (three others were Tennis, Hockey, and Ski).
Just like playing in real field, you plan your own strategy. Pass, run, and even kick to make a goal. In truth, the game was exceedingly basic and required a plastic television overlay to make it resemble a grating at all.
