Hurricane Greg strengthens a little in the Pacific (AP)

MIAMI ? Hurricane Greg has gained a little strength as it heads farther out over the Pacific away from Mexico's coast.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said Greg's maximum sustained winds had increased to 85 mph (140 kph) by late Thursday.

The Category 1 hurricane is expected to weaken over the next couple of days as it heads over cooler waters.

Greg is centered about 335 miles (535 kilometers) south-southwest of the tip of Mexico's Baja California, between Socorro Island and Clarion Island. It is moving west-northwest at 14 mph (22 kph).
