Last week we informed you about a leaked Android 4.1 Jelly Bean ROM that had become available early for rooted Samsung Galaxy S3 owners. Now we have some fresh details on the real thing as we?re hearing an official update could happen as early as next week.
Before you get all excited though, this information affects those who only own the International Samsung Galaxy S3, not the 4G LTE version that is available throughout the U.S. Sources over at Android Central have claimed that the update for the international model is in its final stage of testing and that rollouts will begin in select European countries after Samsung?s Mobile Unpacked Event on August 29.
Countries specifically mentioned include the UK, but we?re guessing the update will also become available in the likes of Scandinavia, France and Germany too. It would be a logical timeline for the update if true, since Samsung has always said that their priority was to update the Galaxy S3 to Jelly Bean, so what better time would be than at their upcoming showcase at IFA in Germany?
That event is likely to give the world a first glimpse at the Galaxy Note 2 and consumers will be hoping that this device runs on Jelly Bean as well after rumors suggested that it may only ship with Ice Cream Sandwich. Back to the Galaxy S3 though, you have to say that this is more like it from Samsung in terms of the speed in getting software updates to consumers so soon after release.
The company had been criticized in the past for being so slow, but let?s hope that this update for the international Galaxy S3 is also an indication that the 4G LTE version will be getting an update as well.
